Hot Rods Go Water-Based

Most savvy wood finishers and painters understand and accept the fact that they have to go water-based when finishing wood and architectural components. But what do the automotive guys think about this trend? Well guess what- automotive paints are going water-based. Is this a true sign of the times?

Oddly enough, automotive finishes have been moving towards water-based coatings for the past 10 years. First came the specialty interior finishes such as "soft touch" faux leather finishes that are actually spray applied waterborne urethanes customized with unique flattening agents that set up to give the same touch and feel under the fingers that a nice, expensive dead cow would also feel like. Next came waterborne "ground" or base colors that were then over-coated with solvent based clears. Now we have full blown, 100% waterborne base and clear coats. Is this kool or what!?
