
It is not too hard to read a newspaper, listen to the nightly news or pickup a trade journal without the discussion of clean air regulations and stricter regional pollution controls appearing in the headlines. As national awareness increases over the concerns of global warming and C02 emissions, its no wonder that the casual user of paints and coatings is starting to sit up and take notice of what has been happening behind the scenes in terms of emission regulations and the control of consumer and industrial coatings. Under the National emissions umbrella, technically known as the National AIM Rules, consumer and industrial coatings are placed into categories that have established ceilings designated to determine the maximum amount of VOC’s allowed per gallon or liter of material sold. However, with the National AIM rules considered to be less strict then what other, more populated regions of the United States would like to see in terms of emission regulations, regional political and environmental forces have take the lead in reducing airborne pollution...
